    Climate Change

    Carbon Footprint Assessment

    • In March 2023, NIO pledged to join the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), and planned to set its decarbonization target and roadmap by 2025.
    • NIO is the first new energy vehicle company in China to response CDP, further contributing to China's carbon peaking and carbon neutrality initiative.
    • NIO has conducted carbon footprint assessments and has obtained the ISO 14064-1 certification.

    Product Carbon Footprint

    • In April 2024, NIO's ET5, the electric drive system with 150kW induction motor, the electric drive system with 210kW permanent magnet motor, and the 75kWh battery received the ISO 14067 Product Carbon Footprint Certification.
    • With NIO ET7's carbon footprint, as well as the life cycle assessment (LCA) of product carbon footprint, NIO was selected into the 2023 Carbon Management Pilot List for the Industrial Communication Industry of Shanghai.

    Internal Carbon Pricing (ICP) Pilot

    • As one of the first Chinese automakers to establish an ICP mechanism, we piloted the mechanism on new model development and supplier selection, providing insight for determining carbon reduction cost and component budget.

    Circular Economy

    “Car to Car” Resource Reutilization Model

    • In 2023, NIO Circular Car Lab piloted the “Car to Car” model for a small batch of 200 vehicles using scrapped testing vehicles. Recycled materials were made into new products.
    • NIO has demonstrated the feasibility of using scrapped materials as new sheet materials in vehicle production. In 2023, NIO Advanced Manufacturing Center recycled 1,200 tons of stamped aluminum scrap, with an expected carbon emission reduction of 24,000 tons.

    Battery Pack Recycling

    • NIO's inhouse-developed BSEI system accurately estimates and rates the residual value of aging batteries, facilitating the cascade utilization of batteries.
    • NIO has developed and internally launched the NIO Battery Passport Platform (demo), laying the foundation for the traceability of recycling.
    • NIO has signed a framework agreement with CATL to jointly promote the development of long-life batteries based on NIO’s battery swapping scenarios. NIO has obtained 104 patents related to battery life.

    BLUE SKY LAB

    • To practice circular economy, NIO Life has established a new fashion brand, BLUE SKY LAB, promoting a sustainable lifestyle.
    • As of the end of 2024, BLUE SKY LAB has cumulatively used 70,902 square meters of recycled automotive-grade fabrics.

    Clean Parks

    Clean Parks is an open platform that we co-build with organizations including WWF and UNDP. With the Shan Shui Conservation Center, we also jointly launched the Clean Parks Citizen Scientists Program.     • NIO adheres to the statements and documents widely adopted across the world, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, and has incorporated them into internal policies such as the NIO Employee Handbook and NIO's Code for Commercial Behavior and Ethics.
    • NIO gives close attention and great importance to the needs of female employees, striving to help them better balance work and life. We organize celebrations that fit the cultures of the regions where we operate on Women's Day and Mother's Day, and offer a variety of tailored activities, including parenting seminars, lectures on marital property laws, singing bowl therapies, and sharing sessions on aesthetics and organization, to reduce their pressures at work and in family life.
    • In 2024, the proportion of female employees at NIO increased to 25.8%, up by 1.0% compared with 2023.

    Ensure Every Talent Has Opportunities

    • NIO Learning and Development Center (LDC) provides customized training solutions for various business clusters, effectively integrating company resources to help enhance organizational development and talent cultivation capabilities across all business departments.
    • For a fair, objective, and transparent promotion process, we have made public the competency standards and requirements for each job level. In 2024, the regular performance and career development evaluation covered 100% of the staff.

    Ensure Every Voice Can Be Heard

    • NIO conducts regular employee satisfaction surveys annually to improve and optimize the work environment and management measures in a targeted manner. In 2024, the employee satisfaction score was 3.97 out of 5.
    • We establish diverse communication channels to foster a positive and harmonious workplace atmosphere, providing employees with platforms to express their demands and ideas.

    Contributions to Ecological Protection

    • NIO has been taking actions in ecological conservation by reducing the impact of its operations on the environment and collaborating with various organizations in ecological protection. In 2023, the NIO Users Trust joined hands with China Charity Federation in the "NIO Climate Action”, helping cope with climate change and preserve ecological diversity.

    Operation Smile

    • For the third consecutive year, NIO has participated in the “Operation Smile of the China Charity Federation for Children and Youth”, organizing 58 charity auctions at NIO Houses in China in 2023, with the proceeds going to support the surgical treatment and recovery of children with cleft lip and palate.

    NIO Users Trust

    • The NIO Users Trust continues to make efforts in three aspects: public welfare, care for users, and joint growth with users. Since its establishment, the Trust, together with 27,000 users, has helped more than 38,000 families and provided care for 144,500 NIO users.

    Responsible Supply Chain

    Formulating ESG Management Policy for Partners

    • NIO has published the Global Supply Chain Sustainability Policy, outlining sustainability standards for our partners in various areas, including environmental impacts, labor relations, diversity and respect, anti-discrimination, anti-sexual harassment, anti-bullying, health and safety, human rights, and supplier diversity. The policy also includes provisions on whistleblowing for relevant violations and anti-retaliation measures.

    Conducting Regular Sustainability Audit

    • NIO regularly conducts partner sustainability audits covering five areas: legal compliance, occupational health and safety, labor rights, environmental protection, and supply chain management. This ensures that partners' performance in all these areas meets its requirements and standards.

    Building Management System for Critical Minerals

    • We carried out the critical mineral project and established a critical minerals management system by formulating institutional documents such as the NIO Due Diligence Management Policy for Critical Minerals and NIO Critical Minerals Management Manual.

    Releasing A Call to Action for NIO Supply Chain Sustainability

    • NIO has released A Call to Action for NIO Supply Chain Sustainability, proposing five sustainability initiatives for our partners: responsible procurement, sustainability evaluation and management, low-carbon development, circular system, and sustainability disclosure.

    Industry-University-Research Cooperation

    NIO actively fulfills its social responsibilities, by collaborating with universities and research institutions on joint projects. We also participated in the compilation of the first set of ESG group standards for China’s automotive industry to promote the industry’s prosperity and sustainable development. Recognizing talent as the primary resource for industry, we continue to support Formula Student China and Formula Student Germany to offer a platform for exceptional domestic and international talent in the automotive industry to showcase their skills and contribute to the advancement of the global automotive industry.

    • NIO has established a top-down ESG governance structure with scientific decision-making, planning, and execution. We have formulated and issued the Charter of the Nominating and ESG Committee, to clarify responsibilities, management processes, and other ESG-related matters at all levels, to continuously enhance the Company’s ESG management capabilities and performance.
