Caroline Bijvoet takes a look at the familiar, man-made environment from a special perspective. Bijvoet graduated from the TU Delft Faculty of Architecture in 1991, and developed simultaneously self-taught as a Rotterdam-based artist. The building and the direct space around the painting often play a decisive role in the creation of her (location-related) works of art. New work is regularly realized in close consultation with owners of special buildings.

The first impetus for these series arose around summer 2022, from the desire to grasp these volatile raw materials of life, at a time when they become both scarce and (too) abundant. Threatened, threatening, but also: conditional for our existence.

Travels, news items, films, exhibitions, TV, books: seemingly random reasons can be start for a new work. The atmosphere of the works varies. Calm or rough; day, night, dirty, clean, disaster, storm, silence. Reflections in every possible way. Man himself is nowhere to be seen, but only perceivable in effects of human intervention.
