<p>Following the 1-2 qualifying performance at the season-opener in Hong Kong, the NextEV Formula E Team with drivers Nelson Piquet Jr and Oliver Turvey, head to Marrakesh aiming for another strong performance in the ‘Red City’.</p>

<p><strong>Nelson Piquet Jr (Car #3):</strong> “My objective for Marrakesh is to have another strong team performance, see the real potential of the car and score as many points as we can. We will keep assessing our strong areas and looking at areas for improvement so that we know the direction that we need to move in. I think Marrakesh looks like a faster track than we are used to as it’s built for racing and the track is slightly wider. It will be an interesting city to race in and I’m looking forward to getting back on track.”</p>

<p><strong>Oliver Turvey (Car #88):</strong> “The biggest challenge in Marrakesh will be learning the new track ahead of qualifying as well as executing the race. The track looks an exciting one, with some faster corners and plenty of straights offering many overtaking opportunities. The first sector looks particularly exciting with two fast long corners. My aim is always to win so I will be aiming to go one better in qualifying and to convert this in the race.”</p>

<p>With the deepest grief, I have to announce that we have lost a great friend, a leader and a founding member and Co-President of NextEV, Dr. Martin Leach, who left us today after fighting illness over the past few months.</p>

<p>I came to know Martin in October 2014. I was impressed by his achievements in the industry, and I was deeply touched by his passion in sharing my vision of creating a totally new experience for automobile users. Since then, Martin had participated in every step of the NextEV journey.</p>

<p>In the early days, Martin supported me in creating an excellent leadership team, shaping the company's value and defining our products, which set the foundation of NextEV.</p>

<p>Martin continued to lead our Performance Program and, under his leadership, NextEV achieved the inaugural drivers’ championship title in the FIA Formula E Championship and our supercar will be seen by the world soon.</p>

<p>Martin is a true warrior and lived to the highest standard. Even during his last minutes, he was still caring about the progress of NextEV. I am honoured to have had Martin as a partner.</p>

<p>His loss is a great loss to all of us, his legacy will stay forever with NextEV. His dedication and his vision will continue to inspire our people to create our history.</p>

<p>The NextEV Formula E Team began its 2016/17 FIA Formula E Championship campaign today on the streets of Hong Kong. The driver pairing of Nelson Piquet Jr and Oliver Turvey got off to the best possible start, with a front row lock-out in qualifying.  Piquet Jr secured pole position, and the team’s first points of the season with three points for pole, whilst Turvey qualified in second place.</p>

<p>An action-packed race in the sweltering Hong Kong heat ensued. Piquet Jr held a strong lead for the opening 17 laps, until he was forced to take evasive action to avoid Lopez who had hit the wall. This enabled Bird and Buemi to pass, with Piquet Jr pushed down into third. Piquet Jr pitted on lap 22, but with the safety car period having come to an end he lost positions to drivers who had pitted under the safety car, emerging in ninth.  He conceded three more places before the end of the race, and crossed the finish line in P11.</p>

<p>Turvey had a solid start and maintained second place until lap six when Bird and Buemi passed him, putting him into fourth place. He pitted during a safety car period on lap 21 after losing time in the previous stint being blocked by Jean-Eric Vergne and, once all drivers had made their mandatory pitstop, he was running in fifth position. In the final stages of the race, Turvey dropped a further three places down the field, finishing the race in eighth place and securing four Championship points.</p>

<p><strong>Nelson Piquet Jr (Car #3) – finished 11th</strong></p>

<p>“It was obviously a mixed day for us. The qualifying result was great for both Oliver and myself, but the race result is disappointing. The start went well and I was able to create a good gap but then I had nowhere to go to avoid Lopez – it could have happened to anyone though. We were all bunched up under the safety car and we simply made the pitstop on the wrong lap. For us, we have to concentrate on working on maximising what we can get out of the car and strategy. I think looking forward to Marrakech we will qualify well and we just have to work hard to prepare for the race as a team. The whole team has been working so hard, and we are going to keep pushing.”</p>

<p><strong>Oliver Turvey (Car #88) – finished 8th</strong></p>

<p>“NextEV have put a huge effort into the car and it felt great to nail my qualifying lap and be on the front row. We clearly have good pace in qualifying, which is encouraging, but we need to look at our efficiency and how we can save more energy over the race. We have both come away with points from this race, which is a positive start. Now we must work on building on the points in Marrakech.”</p>

<p>"Whilst qualifying was obviously very good, with Nelson on pole and Oliver starting from second, the race this afternoon clearly didn’t pan out as we would have liked from a team perspective. We now have to go away and analyse our weaknesses to ensure that we can convert our qualifying pace into podiums positions come the end of the day. Nelson’s race strategy was compromised with the delay in pitting him under the safety car, whilst Oliver lost time in the pit stop itself. Essentially, it’s the team’s first race and whilst there are many positives to take from it we have a lot of homework ahead of Marrakech.”</p>

<p>(Bloomberg) -- A Chinese electric-car startup with ambitions to challenge Tesla Motors Inc. has raised about half of the $1 billion it’s seeking, roping in investors including Sequoia Capital and Joy Capital as part of plans to develop affordable, connected green cars.</p>

<p>NextEV Inc., set up last year by founder William Li and a group of Internet entrepreneurs, is backed by Tencent Holdings Ltd. and Hillhouse Capital. The carmaker is targeting to roll out a supercar model in 2016 that can match the “Ludicrous” speed mode for Tesla’s Model S and plans to outsource production to traditional auto manufacturers, Li said in a phone interview.</p>

<p>A number of startups have sprouted in China in the past year, backed by investors and Internet companies that see opportunities in the government’s policies to promote electric cars and upgrade traditional manufacturing industries.</p>

<p>“Talking big is pointless,” said Li, who is also chairman of car-pricing portal Bitauto Holdings Ltd. “We develop the car purely from the angle of consumers. We most value what they would like the car to be. We want them to experience sheer pleasure of driving our car.”</p>

<p>Besides the supercar, NextEV plans to offer mass-market models that will cost less than half the Tesla Model S, which starts from 620,000 yuan ($97,000) in China. The goal is to offer Chinese consumers smart connected electric vehicles that they can afford, Li said.</p>

<p>“Most consumers go for electric cars for the free license. With more cities capping issuance of license plates, it will be the biggest motivation for motorists to buy electric vehicles,” said Yale Zhang, Shanghai-based managing director at Autoforesight Shanghai Co. “If NextEV can make their cars solid, better than Tesla in terms of manufacturing quality, they will find a big market here.”</p>

<p>NextEV was set up in Shanghai by Li and investors including Li Xiang, the founder of car-pricing website Autohome Inc., and JD.com Inc. Chief Executive Officer Richard Liu. The carmaker has hired former Maserati and Ford executive Martin Leach to head its operations and now has about 300 employees, mainly research and development staff, and offices in Silicon Valley, Munich, London, Beijing and Shanghai.</p>

<p>Both Sequoia Capital and Joy Capital cited the market potential for electric vehicles and the depth of the management team for their decisions to invest in NextEV.</p>

<p>The company plans to team up with two carmakers by the end of this year to outsource manufacturing, Li said without providing details. NextEV will expand to overseas markets in the future, though China will remain its primary focus, he said.</p>

<p>“Chinese consumers are very picky given that pretty much all the brands and models are available in this market,” Li said. “If we can win over Chinese consumers, it will be easier to attract motorists in other markets.”</p>

<p>The FE (FIA Formula E Championship) 2016/17 Season will kick off on Sunday, October 9th, in Hong Kong.</p>

<p>The NextEV Formula E Team already stated that Nelson Piquet Jr and Oliver Turvey will remain with the team. This will be the third season for Nelson at NextEV and the second time for Nelson and Oliver to race on the same team. The new car will continue to run the NextEV teal as its new livery.</p>

<p>As for the technical team, Gerry Hughes, who previously held key roles for Caterham, Red Bull, and the Jordan F1 team, joined the NextEV FE’s team in December 2015 as their new Chief Race Engineer. The new car for this season will be the first one he has supervised at NextEV. Barry Mortimer, Head of Team Operations at Team Aguri last season, will be joining to take the role of Team Manager.</p>

<p>The NextEV Formula E Team released its new car at the end of August. The new car has a completely new powertrain as well as an increased energy retention system. While the double front wing design will further reduce air resistance.</p>

<p>NextEV’s Formula E Team said that the challenge last season was having to control the extra weight caused by its unique twin-motor powertrain. In the new season, the team is confident they can take advantage of the power output released by the twin-motor design, and further enhance its reliability. The new 700R system will retain the twin-motor concept.</p>

<p>Martin Leach, Co-President of NextEV revealed that the status of the team was much better than that of last year. “Our new powertrain, increased regeneration levels and technical upgrades have us set for an exciting season ahead. We are confident that we will be at the sharp end of the grid once again.”</p>

<p>[April 6, 2016] NextEV and JAC Motors signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement，worth up to ten billion RMB，in the field of electric vehicles．</p>

<p>Founded in late 2014 with the goal to become the world’s first ＂user enterprise＂，NextEV specializes in the design and development of high-performance electric vehicles．NextEV was founded by world-class enterprises and entrepreneurs including Tencent；Bitauto.com founder William Li；autohome.com.cn founder Xiang Li；JD.com founder Richard Liu，and well-known investment institutions including Hillhouse Capital；Sequoia Capital and JOY Capital．NextEV is headquartered in Shanghai，with world-class design，research and development offices in San José，Munich，Beijing，Hong Kong，and London．</p>

<p>JAC Motors is one of China’s leading electric automakers，with a history of more than 50 years in the manufacture of advanced energy efficient cars and electric vehicles．</p>

<p>NextEV and JAC Motors will partner to bring the industry forward，through the sharing of their joint technical expertise，supply chain，marketing，advanced manufacturing，and capital．</p>
