NIO Inc. Releases 2025 ESG Report
On May 20, NIO Inc. released its 2025 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report, outlining its management approach and progress in sustainable development from six dimensions: innovation & circularity, quality & co-creation, users & community, environment & nature, inclusive and shared prosperity, and compliance & governance.

Continuously Advancing Low-Carbon Transformation Across the Entire Value Chain
NIO remains committed to embedding low-carbon principles throughout the product lifecycle, integrating carbon management into every stage, including R&D, supply chain management, manufacturing, sales and after-sales services, as well as extended producer responsibility. It has established a comprehensive carbon accounting system covering Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions at the corporate level, all of which have been verified by an independent third party. By 2035, NIO aims to reduce per-vehicle carbon emissions by 43% compared to 2023 levels.
NIO has established a carbon footprint assessment framework covering the entire value chain. In 2025, the ONVO L60 and ONVO L90 received five-star ratings and certification under the China Green Car Assessment Program (C-GCAP) for low-carbon performance.
In 2025, NIO’s factories received National Green Factory recognition, achieving a 26% year-on-year reduction in total energy consumption intensity and a 27% decrease in comprehensive energy consumption per vehicle.
Clean Parks, a global ecological conservation initiative launched by NIO, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has established 18 projects worldwide. The initiative supports the adoption of smart EVs and the development of clean energy infrastructure in nature reserves around the world, building self-sustaining clean and low-carbon energy systems to protect the authenticity and integrity of ecosystems. Compared to equivalent ICE vehicles, smart EVs deployed across Clean Parks project sites achieved a cumulative carbon emissions reduction of over 100 tonnes in 2025.
Driving Sustainable Development Through Technological Innovation
In 2025, NIO established the AGI Committee to systematically advance AI governance and technological innovation. During the same period, NIO’s proprietary Shenji NX9031, the world’s first automotive-grade 5 nm advanced smart driving chip, successfully entered mass production. Core capabilities including the full-domain vehicle operating system and intelligent chassis continued to iterate and evolve.
In the circular economy area, NIO’s proprietary Circular Car Lab project has achieved a closed loop at the “car-to-car” level, recovering over 1,100 end-of-life vehicles and recycling nearly 500 tonnes of aluminum—equivalent to a cumulative carbon reduction of over 10,000 tonnes.
NIO co-published the Blue Book on Vehicle Circularity, the first comprehensive guidance document in China to systematically outline the circular development across the automotive product lifecycle. The related wheel and air conditioning compressor housing received the automotive industry’s first “car-to-car” level recycled aluminum certification.
Quality Is Our Belief
Regarding product quality and safety as the fundamental commitment to its users, NIO has established the Global Quality Management Committee, dedicated to promoting a full-lifecycle quality system.
NIO has extended the quality management scope from traditional dimensions to six major quality domains: software system, battery swapping and charging system, vehicles, smart hardware, electric drive system, and battery system. The system capabilities of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 quality management have been fully integrated across four core processes: forward model quality, partner quality, manufacturing and logistics quality, and service quality.
Going All Out for Safety
As of the end of 2025, seven models of NIO had received five-star safety ratings from the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP), five models had received five-star safety ratings from the China New Car Assessment Program (C-NCAP), and four models had achieved the highest annual safety rating from the China Insurance Automotive Safety Index (C-IASI).
In the field of assisted safety, NIO’s General Objects Warning and Assist (GOA) had completed a model-based upgrade, improving accident-avoidance capability by 290% and helping to prevent a total of 2.387 million potential accidents. In 2025, NIO launched the industry-first Emergency Roadside Pull-Over function, providing users with more reliable safety protection in extreme scenarios.
Building a Sustainable Supply Chain Ecosystem Together
NIO led the development of China’s first national standard for steer-by-wire technology, forming a virtuous development path from technological leadership and validation to standard definition. At the same time, NIO actively fulfills its responsibility as a supply chain owner, working with partners to build a green, transparent, and sustainable supply chain ecosystem, thereby enhancing the overall competitiveness of the industry.
NIO released the NIO Supply Chain Sustainability Initiative and upgraded its “Partner Sustainability Evaluation Standard” to version 2.0, which includes over 100 indicators. NIO conducted online sustainability risk assessments for more than 200 supply chain partners, carried out 96 on-site ESG risk assessments, and presented the NIO Partner Blue Sky Award to 15 partners.
Coordinated Development of Energy Infrastructure and User Community
Backed by NIO Power’s “Chargeable, Swappable, and Upgradeable” battery solution, NIO continues to provide users with efficient, convenient, and reliable energy replenishment services. In February 2026, NIO reached the milestone of 100 million battery swaps.
NIO has also become one of the first EV makers to regularly participate in grid frequency regulation services. In Zhejiang Province, NIO has connected its 200 battery swap stations to the Virtual Power Plant program of the China Huaneng Group. By the end of 2025, NIO had approximately 860 battery swap stations and 26,000 chargers participating in peak shaving and frequency regulation across 14 provinces and municipalities, actively responding to the demand of the state grid.
In user services, NIO has built an open, vibrant, and loyal user community through both online and offline channels, including the NIO app and the NIO House network. As of the end of 2025, there were 2,440 interest groups in NIO’s community, cumulatively covering 686,873 users.
To advocate sustainable lifestyles, NIO Life’s used clothing recycling initiative engaged 32,080 participants in total, collecting 160 tonnes of used clothing and supporting the planned planting of over 21,000 square meters of shelter forest.
By the end of 2025, NIO users’ public welfare initiatives had reached more than 40 cities and regions across China, benefitting over 300,000 families.
Building a Diverse and Inclusive Organization
NIO remains committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive global organization. In 2025, NIO received 13 employer awards and recognitions.
NIO’s employee training system covered 100% of employees, with average training hours reaching approximately 50 hours per employee, representing a year-on-year increase of 14 hours. The ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems coverage reached 100% across all its manufacturing, R&D, and office sites.
In compliance, NIO achieved 100% employee coverage for compliance and business ethics training in 2025. Regarding information security and privacy protection, NIO has obtained CSMS certification, ISO 27001 Information Security Management Systems certification, and ISO 27701 Privacy Information Management Systems certification.
