2G/3G Network Shutdown
Important information about the 2G/3G network switch-off and your vehicle's eCall system
Mobile network operators are progressively switching off their 2G and 3G networks as newer 4G and 5G technologies are introduced. This industry-wide change is determined by the network operators and is outside the control of vehicle manufacturers.
If your vehicle's eCall system relies exclusively on a 2G or 3G mobile connection, its ability to automatically or manually contact emergency services may no longer be available in areas where 2G/3G networks have been interrupted.
This means that, in the event of a serious collision, the automatic emergency call function may not operate as originally designed.
The timing of network switch-off varies by country and mobile network operator. If your vehicle uses 4G (LTE) or newer mobile technology for eCall, your vehicle is not affected by the network switch-off. If you are unsure whether your vehicle is affected by the shutdown of the 2G/3G network, please do not hesitate to contact us via your local dealer and/or the NIO/firefly service hotline.
If the vehicle's eCall function is unavailable, emergency services can always be quickly contacted by dialling the single European emergency number '112' using a mobile phone, where network coverage is available.
